One of the great pleasures of science fiction is the chance to discover new aspects of our own world, amplified. Cory Doctorow is a master of this style, and hence he receives our final DISCOVER Teaser Tuesday.
"At first I was relieved when I discovered that they weren't going to leave Mr Benson in charge of my social studies class. But the woman they found to replace him was my worst nightmare."
- Little Brother, by Cory Doctorow
About the book:
Marcus, a.k.a “w1n5t0n,” is only seventeen years old, but he figures he already knows how the system works–and how to work the system. Smart, fast, and wise to the ways of the networked world, he has no trouble outwitting his high school’s intrusive but clumsy surveillance systems.
But his whole world changes when he and his friends find themselves caught in the aftermath of a major terrorist attack on San Francisco. In the wrong place at the wrong time, Marcus and his crew are apprehended by the Department of Homeland Security and whisked away to a secret prison where they’re mercilessly interrogated for days.
When the DHS finally releases them, Marcus discovers that his city has become a police state where every citizen is treated like a potential terrorist. He knows that no one will believe his story, which leaves him only one option: to take down the DHS himself. -- From the publisher.

I've made a late discovery of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, oddly enough never on my reading list at school!
Here's my teaser:
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it."
Wow I am going through the last few weeks of your Teaser Tuesdays since I missed them! This one sounds awesome! Here is
my Teaser Tuesdays Post
This sounds like the kind of science fiction I enjoy. It doesn't require a huge "suspension of disbelief" as so many do -- after all, it takes place on our world, features human beings, and could actually happen! Thanks for the Teaser.
My Teaser is from A VERY SOUTHERN AFFAIR.
This sounds great and very interesting! Adding to my TBR list! Thanks for sharing! :D
